A contest? How can I win a spot in the workshop?

That's right! I'm holding a contest for one lucky photographer to win a free spot in the workshop (you'll be asked to pay for your own flight to Cancun Mexico but everything else is included - meals & drinks, shuttle, hotel and workshop - a $2950 value!). All you have to do is one of the following:

1. Either
a) Create one blog post with a picture you have taken (the photo should be either watermarked or contain copyright information). The photo can be of any subject. It could be of your child, dog, a flower, a humming bird -- the sky's the limit... the most important thing is that the photo should be creative and should represent the kind of photographer you are. The blog post should have the following information:

I'm posting this photo to try to win a free spot in the FunkyTown Destination Wedding Photography Workshop. Find out more here:
www.funkytownphotography.com/destinationweddingworkshop

or

b) Post your photo on YOUR Facebook fan page with the following text:

2. Contact me with your blog post address or Facebook fan page address and your contact information. The post should be created (and the link sent to me) by April 30, 2011

3. On May 1, 2011 I will create a facebook voting page featuring your watermarked/copyrighted image. You can invite your friends and family to vote for your image.

4. On June 1, 2011 at 11pm PST the person with the most votes (on the FunkyTown Facebook Fan Page) wins the destination wedding photography workshop!

5. I'll announce the winner on my blog and on my Facebook fan page with a link back to your website. :) I'll also post the blog links in my comment section for this blog post as entries come in.

(Photographers who attend the workshop will be expected to know how to control their cameras in manual mode).

GOOD LUCK! I can't wait to see your work!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

With Valentine's Day rounding out the most popular days to get engaged in what the wedding industry calls "engagement season" (Christmas Eve/Day and New Year's Eve/Day of course being the other favourites) Viva la wedding would like to send out a big CONGRATULATIONS to all the couples getting engaged today!!

And to Viva's couples past, present, and future along with all our fabulous wedding vendors we're absolutely in love with because they help us make our couples' dreams come true... Happy Valentine's Day!!

LOVE QUOTES

Love is in the air! How can it not be? With so many recent engagements taking place over the winter holidays and the many more that came with Valentine’s Day, there isn’t a time of year more about love. To celebrate, Viva thought we’d dedicate a post to love. More specifically, quotes about love. Whether you use them on your invitations, ceremony programs, guest favor tags, or in a toast to your new husband/wife there’s always room for a love quote at your wedding. Here are some of Viva’s faves...

When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. ~When Harry Met Sally

I dreamed of a wedding of elaborate elegance. A church filled with family and friends. I asked him what kind of a wedding he wished for. He said one that would make me his wife.

You don't marry someone you can live with, you marry the person who you cannot live without.

Trip over love, you can get up. Fall in love and you fall forever.

Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

You know you’re in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. ~Dr Seuss

Love one another and you will be happy. It’s as simple and as difficult as that.

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. ~Mignon McLaughlin

If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day so I never have to live without you. ~Winnie the Pooh

The spaces between your fingers were created so that another’s could fill them in.

US Virgin Islands

Laura & Sean's Wedding on St. John's Island - US Virgin Islands

Location: Villa Amarosa, St. John's Island, US Virgin Islands
Wedding Coordinator: Kathy Hurley - A Love City Wedding
Videographer: Happy & Free Productions

You will have to pardon me while I gush about Laura & Sean's wedding on the beautiful and secluded island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. The second I met anyone from this wedding I was greeted with the warmest welcome you could imagine - with smiles that never stopped. This tight-knit group had four days of celebrations and when I say celebrate, I mean celebrate! I think the pictures speak volumes for the kind of party they had. Laura & Sean are a perfect match and they were downright giddy with happiness. Plus, they were extremely photogenic and easy to work with - a photographer's dream. We spent some time before the wedding taking portraits, which meant they could spend their wedding afternoon and reception enjoying time with their guests. This was such a fun wedding and I can't express enough how much I liked everyone who was a part of their day. Laura & Sean, a huge congratulations! Enjoy your sneak peek!

WORKSHOP NEWS - VICTORIA 3-DAY WORKSHOP MARCH 4-6, 2011

I'm excited to share photos from workshop I hosted last weekend (March 4-6, 2011) at the Executive House in Victoria. We had a high caliber group of photographers visiting from Ontario, Mississippi, and Washington State, not to mention some awesome talent from Vancouver Island. I'm still waiting for permission from a couple of people before posting their photos but I'm expecting to share more soon. Also, in the next few weeks I'll also make a promotional video thanks to footage taken by my good friends Jenna & Tristan (visit http://www.jennaandtristan.com to see their amazing work). A very special thank you to the following photographers who helped with the workshop Ashley Gulevich, Kelsey Goodwin, Georgie Wilson, Jenna & Tristan Shouldice and to the following amazing models (most were supplied by the fabulous Barbara Coultish Agency in Victoria): Jesse & Kevin, Andrea & Ben, Dana, Svea, Grace, Ashley, Alexis and Michelle. I'd also love to share Jesse Holland's blog post from the weekend. She is a talented wedding photographer here in Victoria who agreed to pose with her husband. They gorgeous models. All of the photos were created by workshop participants (credit is under each photo on Jesse's blog). http://jessehollandphotoblog.com/
